Temperature
and Flow Field Analysis
A manufacturer of advanced materials wanted
to know if installing fans in a processing furnace would alleviate
temperature gradients in their product. 2D simulations were
used to determine the temperature and flow field in the furnace.
Based on the results of simulation, it was concluded that
the maximum temperature non-uniformity over the product was
around 10° C, primarily caused by a cold spot at the center
of the product. Further analysis showed that the addition
of louvers which would adjust the flow of hot gas from the
fans could be used to reduce/eliminate the cold spot.
